A Chic Humidifier: Your New Bestie

purify air in your home for wellness and beauty | by the skinny confidential

I know, another gadget. I apologize, but I just can’t help it. When I find something I like, I just can’t shut the fuck up.

THIS HUMIDIFIER was recommended to me by my friend Jorge Cruise. He’s an author & celebrity trainer ( he trains Brooke Burke, Steve Harvey, & Khloe Kardashian ). Anyways, I told him how my body wasn’t absorbing water as well in LA compared to San Diego. The air here is just drier & different.

He recommended this chic, sleek, white humidifier. If I’m being honest, I couldn’t believe the price. It’s $499- $350 on Amazon right now! But I was determined to try it out because of all the benefits.

Benefits? There’s literally SO MANY. Let’s discuss:

♡ Helps with itchy, cracked skin.

♡ Promotes healing when it comes to skin rashes.

♡ Helps with irritated eyes, dry throat & sinus headaches.

♡ Adds moisture to the air all year round.

♡ Purifies, heats & cools the air around you.

♡ Kills 99.9% of bacteria before the mist & moisture is projected into the room.

♡ Asthma & allergy friendly.

♡ Tells you the temperature & humidity level of the room.

♡ Maintains a healthy environment while you’re sleeping.

♡ Reduces snoring. ( I used to be such a big snorer before I had jaw surgery. Wish I knew about this before. )

♡ Can help with acne.

Sure, you’re constantly reaching for that chic, dewy moisturizer, but did you know that a humidifier can really help your skin stay hydrated & soft?

This was a total splurge, but now I’m hooked. Jorge told me that you want the humidity in your house to be between 30-50%, & this one tells you the exact level of your environment. Immediately I noticed a difference at night & I even noticed that Pixy & Boone’s eyes weren’t so dry anymore. It’s just so much better than sleeping with the air conditioner on.

With this, the silk pillowcases, salt lamp, noise-cancelling headphones, & white noise machine– we’re total sleep snobs.

HOT TIP…make sure you’re switching out the water in your humidifier every week. Otherwise it can grow mold & bacteria. This is how it should be cleaned:

♡ Wipe over air loop amplifier, paying close attention to the air gaps. Wipe with a lint-free microfiber cloth.

♡ Empty the water. Rinse and wipe over all surfaces. Repeat if necessary.

♡ Empty the trough and wipe over all surfaces. Do not rinse under the top or put in the dishwasher/ While not dangerous, care should be taken to avoid water entering the inlets. Wipe the exterior with a link free microfiber cloth.

My thing is to get in the shower at night before bed. I take a eucalyptus shower with my salt lamp night light plugged in, then switch on the humidifier & get into bed. Between this & my silk pillowcase, my skin is so much more glowy & I feel like I can breathe better.

Another fun fact is it can help water house plants. Efficient!

You should know there are 5 different types of humidifiers { via }:

♡ Central humidifiers
Central humidifiers are built directly into your home’s air conditioning or heating unit. These are the most expensive types of humidifier, but they’re the best choice if you want to add humidity throughout the entire house. Traditional humidifiers carry a potential risk of burns from the steam they emit. Central humidifiers don’t emit steam.

♡ Evaporators
Evaporators blow moisture through a moistened filter. Fans power the unit and expel the humidity into the air from a single-unit system. These are more affordable than central humidifiers, but the downside is that they only work in one room at a time. They may also expel too much moisture into the air. This can be problematic for people with asthma, as it raises the likelihood for mold growth.

♡ Impeller humidifiers
Impeller humidifiers work with the help of rotating disks that run at high speeds. These units are often less expensive. They’re also among the most child-friendly devices, because they create cool mist and carry no risk of burns. The downside is, like evaporators, they only work for single rooms. They can potentially cause breathing difficulties for people with allergies and asthma when they’re overused.

♡ Steam vaporizers
Steam vaporizers are electrically powered. They heat water, and then cool it before expelling it into the air. These are the most inexpensive and portable humidifiers. You can purchase them at drugstores. This type can cause burns, so it’s not the most kid-friendly.

♡ Ultrasonic humidifiers
Ultrasonic humidifiers produce a cool mist with the help of ultrasonic vibration. The units vary in price, depending on the size you need for your home. Both cool and warm mist versions are available. An ultrasonic humidifier — especially the cool-mist version — is a good choice if you have children.

The one we have is ultrasonic, hygienic with full room coverage.

It’s so chic that Bergdorf Goodman sells it.

You guys know I’m always trying different tips & tricks, & this is one that Michael & I really like. There are cheaper ones, but I just wanted a good one, with a warranty, that was recommended by a friend. We use it EVERY SINGLE night, so I personally think it’s worth the investment. I just had to share because I can’t help myself.

Have any of you guys used a humidifier?

Alright, I’m off to read Tina Turner’s autobiography, My Love Story & sip on some hot mushroom cacao. Of course, my humidifier is on full blast.

See you tomorrow,

x, lauryn

  1. Wow, $500 humidifier??? That’s pretty crazy even for me (I have pretty expensive taste tbh). You do you though:)

  2. I’m going to try. I love the expensive one. Question – does it do anything better then the basic? Which type is it on your list? I’ll prob buy one for $40. Tips?
